Sunday 25th May
It was a lovely day to wake up to. bright and sunny, just the thing for Cadwell Park. We had been there since Friday night, a little light practice on Saturday, or was that heavy duty? a few halves Saturday night quite a few halves actually] I must remember I've got a race tomorrow, think no hangover, think fitness.....sod it! it's a crack, whats the point otherwise, we talk the talk, what we've done to our bikes, what were going to do, what we should of done, good stuff. I counted up the other night, there's over 50 riders, mechanics, and friends who turn up nearly every meeting. That's a lot of people to bulls..t to.
Paul Roberts FZR1000 bathed in glorious Cadwell sunshine. Welcome to Rob Wittey on his first outing with the Superstock club, on his WadTechRacing.co.uk OWO1. Nick's VFR looked very pretty in the new black and white livery (after his off at Donington Park). Steve has successfully conquered all the teething problems on his FZ 888 so should be a stonking weekend!! Pete y. was sporting his new paint job. Everyone ready to rock.
Some fine tuning of Jeremy's pretty RC30. Open Superstocks round 3 The grid positions left a lot to be desired, all over the place! But still with tension mounting the lights went red/green and Neil got the hole shot followed by Steve and Pete G. Mark had a good start as did Rich, but with the slower novice twins it proved hard for the rest of the boy's to get through. Pete G. was into 5th by the end of the first lap, with Neil, Mark , Steve and Rich in his wheel tracks. The third lap saw Pete go into third. Down in mid pack Rich, Rob, Gary and Phil were all together and it was a marvellous sight watching them all go through Hall Bends (think Battle of Britain) Just a few places behind there was Malcolm, Jez, Nick, Pete Y. and Paul also having their own race. Steve meanwhile was tearing along on his rapid 888 Yam with Mark in his sights and catching, but.....oh bugger, bugger and double bugger the red flag went out on lap 4 and the result was declared! It turns out that it was Paul who came off at Barn....apart from a few bumps and bruises he is fine. Pete crossed the line 1st for the Superstocks, Neil 2nd, Mark 3rd, Steve 4th, Rich 5th, Rob 6th, Gary 7th, Phil 8th, Malcolm 9th, Jez 10th, Nick 11th, Peter 12th and Paul 13th. (result declared on lap 3 so Paul got his position)
The loneliness of a long distance Rider Sunday night drinky poos, and to the great relief of Rob Witty there was no Karaoke
Steve sharing his full and secret training regime with Rob Wittey. Open Superstocks Round 4 First start A blistering start by the all the lads saw a cavalry charge up to Coppice, but the race was red flagged because while coming out of Charlies two a Ducati was coasting. Steve just missed the machine as did Jez and Pete Y but Rich wasn't as lucky, taking avoiding action and grabbing a handful of brake, Rich and his machine cart wheeled off down the track, He was taken to Lincoln hospital for observation over night, after being knocked out, Luckily Rich escaped with only cuts and bruises and very bad gravel rash. We are very pleased to report that Rich is on the road to recovery, back home and is already making plans for Snetterton, top chap! After first making sure his brother was okay, Malcolm run back to re-join the grid.
The bike just fell......honest guv' But it still never spoilt Paul's siesta!! Second start Pete was off on a mission from god, with Mark, Neil, Steve and Rob again not far behind, it was a fantastic sight to see at least six Superstock machines crest the mountain together on the first lap. Pete had pulled a gap on the rest and was into 4th by the second lap. Neil was going like a train after Mark with Rob and Steve breathing down his neck, Malcolm was tearing it up with Gary, Nick and Pete Y. It was nail biting stuff to see them catapult out of Barn , they were almost swapping paint jobs! Neil was gaining on Mark rapidly, but a mistake at Park left him on the turf and Neil re-joined the race in last position to the applause of the crowds; that he managed to keep it upright! Rob couldn't shake the ever looming presence of the 888 FZ ridden by Steve, and only just managed to hold Steve off. The race finished with Pete in first, Mark 2nd, Rob 3rd, Steve 4th, Gary5th, Neil 6th!, Nick 7th, Malcolm 8th and Peter 9th. Pete Gisbourne got the fastest lap of the weekend on the Thunder and Superstock grid overall.........a fantastic time of....1:34.49 @ 82.67 mph !!
