Mallory Park

Monday May 2nd

The usual dawn raid to Mallory Park. Lovely sunny morning, up the motorway for a good couple of hours!

We had 2 new riders joining us for a 'test run' Adam Charlesworth on a Suzuki GSXR 1052 and Simon Bryant on a Suzuki GSXR1100. Welcome to the club boys!

Steve being a spectator for the weekend still managed to end up working on his babies (the bikes not the riders!)

Neil Robinson would like to thank his friend, John William's for his encouragement, advice and  financial support which is helping  Neil chase this years Open Superstock Championship.

Mallory following the same format as Brands Hatch and having a qualifying rather than the grids being pre arranged, which put Neil 2nd on the grid with a time of 58.6 (bloody good effort, that's SECOND against Ducatis, Aprillia's and other top twins and triples) Gary was 15th on the grid, Jeremy 19th, Malcolm 23rd, Ray 22nd, Simon 24th, Adam 25th, Kieron 26th and Peter 28th.

Race 1

Malcolm riding his brother Richards Suzuki for the weekend, due to the accident at Brands Hatch, was having a problem with the carbs so was fixing the problem before his race and unfortunately not making it out. So with the sun beating down and a few tweaks to the bikes, the boys go off on their 2 warm up laps and to reform the grid. Feeling the tension mounting, all eyes on the flag man to signal to the lights engines revving, lights, fingers on stopwatches and go! Neil being the first one off the line and ahead of the field and into the first bend, the man is on form and impressive! So Neil coming round first, Gary coming round next with a Ducati separating him and Jeremy a Honda separating him and Ray with Kieron coming up close behind Adam not being far behind and Peter following up the Superstock boys. But wait.......no Simon......Oh dear he's fallen! by lap 4 the order being much the same, Neil was now in second in the field but still leading the boys by track lengths, Gary still battling it out with the big boys further down the field and Ray and Kieron still fighting each other with Adam not far behind and Peter battling with a big Ducati, Neil crossed the line just 0.35 sec behind the leader....close...!

 Neil 1st (with a best of 57.8, Gary 2nd, Jeremy 3rd, Ray 4th, Kieron 5th, Adam 6th, Peter 7th.

Race 2

Alas the sunny skies and the hot weather was not to last, with an absolute down pour of rain, it was like monsoon season, the wind howling, the rain lashing down, the awnings detaching themselves from where they were tied, chaos reigned - for all of 20 minutes! (still it wasn't pleasant)

So a long delay before the second race and a decision to be made if it was going to clear up, to work out what tyres to put on  the bikes. Malcolm unfortunately not making it out and although Simon crashed he did want to go out but no wet tyres! Adam thought safe and decided to keep his Suzuki sunny side up.  The rest all going on wets,  it was time to form the grid. the race shortened to 6 laps instead of 7 it was just starting to spit again. all eyes to the lights........the roar of the bikes flying past the wall truly deafening! First lap with Neil heading the field, holding off five twins,  Gary and Jes were next,  fighting  each other place for points both riding hard. Ray coming was next  with Kieron on his tail, will he do it time?! Peter coming round chasing an Aprilla.  Lap four Neil was still holding off the swarm of twins, pulling away out of each turn and being reeled back at the end of each straight, he was really riding well until an almighty slide coming out of the left hander before the hairpin meant he lost 3 places putting him into 4th, (the better part of valour told Neil to bring it home sunny side up) Gary and Jes still fighting between themselves and Kieron closing in on Ray. Jes started to settle down in the latter part of the race slowly catching Gary after a niggerly electrical fault, that  had plagued him was resolved and it was really Jes's first consistent ride without problems. Ray's big GSXR went unto three cylinders allowing Kieron, who was never that far behind, to catch him on the last lap.

Neil had fastest lap again 1;06.07 @ 75.74mph

Snetterton is the next round 14/15th May, there are few more boys coming out for the first time this season. See you all there, have a safe journey
