Cadwell Park Final Rounds

9th/10th October

FRIDAY 8TH. PRACTICE

With this weekend being the last  of the season what better place than to round up the Championship than by being at the wonderful Cadwell Park!

The original plan being that we'd leave home at 10am and arrive at 1.30pm, didn't quite go to plan! With a journey so full of traffic jams and old biddies following the speed limit, we arrived at 2.30pm. So behind schedule! To top it all off we were confronted with freezing cold winds once we arrived! Malcolm, Jeremy and Gary had been there all day and getting a good practice day in, we managed to get two sessions in. Everything seemed to be ok with the bike and its on to the bar to gear up for tomorrow! Bob Price came along to the meeting, not competing on the RC since a crash at Castle Combe (winter project). Bob rode a beautiful P&M Kawasaki in the sound of thunder grid.

Going into these final races, Mark it seemed had already wrapped up the championship, although if by some very bad luck he didn't complete any of the races Jes could take the championship! Read on...............

Saturday 9th Race 1

A cold day, how refreshing to wake up to a cold day! So it was tyre warmers on most of the morning until we were called over the tannoy to go to the warm up area. These are 8 lap races and extremely hard work! All lined up on the grid and raring to go, all eyes on the signal man to point to the lights..... GREEN, GO! Fantastic start by all, but oh no a huge pile up at the rear of the grid and unfortunately Peter Young has been caught up in the chaos and the race has been red flagged. As the race is the last one before lunch its decided to hold the race after lunch, so its back to the paddock and tyre warmers on again! Right back on the grid after a brief lunch break and again it all eyes on the signal man to point to the lights and wait for the lights.... GREEN! GO! Again another great start by all (even Steve!) Although Malcolm is the one heading the field with Steve close on his tail and Mark, Gary, Jeremy and Ray all in a group following close behind in a group of there own! By lap three it was a slightly different story! Malcolm still leading with amazing speed, Mark now two bikes behind, Steve not far behind with Gary hot on his heels and Jeremy and Ray battling it out between them. The race ended 6 long laps later and it finished with Malcolm first and getting the fastest lap, Mark second, Steve third, Gary fourth, Jeremy fifth (and had been racing without a visor as it had fallen off the first lap!) and Ray sixth. Fastest lap went to Malcolm; 1:41.76 @ 76.95 mph

This years champion Mark, chasing one of the dreaded twins!!!!!

Race  2

After a discussion in the paddock on how the 1st race went and how the next one should be done and numerous cups of tea it was time to whip the tyre warmers off and get to the grid! Look at the signal man....to the lights...rev those engines..... and there off! Again its Malcolm who is leading the Superstock field into Coppice with Mark not far behind, Steve, Jeremy, Ray and Gary all together fighting to be the next one through! By the time they are at Hall bends its Mark first, Malcolm chasing, Gary, Jeremy Steve and Ray all starting to spread out but still close enough to be scaring each other! By lap 6 its all different again. Still with Mark out in front and pulling away further from Malcolm its Steve and Jeremy next through pulling away also from Gary and Ray who are still fighting together! At the end of  7 laps you can tell the poor boys are getting tired and praying for the chequered flag to come out or else they might just not make it! So its Mark across the line first, Malcolm second (with the fastest lap again!) Jeremy third with Steve not at all far behind in forth, Gary fifth and Ray sixth. Fastest lap, Malcolm 1:42.22 @ 76.60 mph

Steve showing off his shiney new black leathers

At the end of the day we find that Peter is no longer asking where he is and has a broken collar bone and would like to be picked up from the hospital, so he can have a couple of glasses of whiskey and show his x-rays to the boys! And so its off to the bar for the last time this season and talk about the year we've had and what the plans are for next year (it's going to be a long night!)

And here is said x-ray! ouch, ouch ouch............

Sunday 10 October

The birds are singing, the mist is lifting and the boys are wandering around looking blurry eyed and not so bushy tailed! Just a normal morning after the night before!                                                            Steve manages to go out for morning practice just for a bit of exercise!

We also have surprise visitors today, Pete Gisbourne (last years predominant race leader and championship winner) Mark Freeman who raced with us in the early days and is still in regular contact with Steve, and Rob Eely who started mid season with us and will be with us full time next year!

Race 1

Mark got the hole shot only to be caught and passed on the outside by Malc going up Coppice, leaving him to the eager clutches of Steve, Jes, Gary and Ray!  Malc didn't have an easy time though as Mark was virtually riding on the FZ with him, Steve and Jes had Mark firmly in their sights until half race distance when two cheeky twins put themselves in between them. Gary and Ray were only just behind. On the penultimate lap Jes managed to squeeze past Steve for third. Malc went on to win with Mark a nose behind for second, Jes held on to third, Steve fourth, Gary fifth and Ray sixth. fastest lap went Mark. 1:42.22 @ 76.60 mph

Sue, does my bum look big in this.....? wonders Jes

During the break Steve had a look at the Harris as he handling was bad during the first race and found to his utter annoyance that the rear shock had completely gone. Bugger!

Race 2

Well then, Mark completely run away with the start leaving the rest behind. It was up to Malc, Gary, Jes and Ray to fight it out for second and third places. There were just two many between Mark and them to challenge for the win.  Malc managed to pull an advantage on Gary by mid race, leaving Jes and Ray to go for third. With too much work to do Mark won the race, followed by Malc, Gary, Jes and Ray. fastest lap Mark. 1:41.09 @ 77.46 mph

Yippeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
