Cadwell Park Easter weekend

Well here we are again, a new race season ahead of us all. And what better place to start the 2004 season then Cadwell park. The weather was just right, warm spring days. We had to try out the new chicane, after Mansfield, before the Mountain. I wish they had left it out, but we have seen worse.

A big welcome to newcomers to the Superstock class, Bob Price RC30, Kieron Hayes 750 slabside, and Rob Eley 1100 Suzi. We also met Ray Johnson, who, with his mates is putting together a 1100 Suzi, the same as he rode many moons ago in World Endurance, should be out at Snetterton. As will Richard Bates sporting his new 750 J Suzi.   This weekend for the first time this year the Earlystock boys will be running with the class.

Points this year are issued on every single race so the stakes are higher!

Also we will be missing the riding of Peter Gisbourne this year as he has taken the year out, but he'll be back for a couple of meetings this year (we know he wants to!!)

Practice day on the Saturday, it was last year that many of us had thrown a leg over a saddle,  so I think some practice is in order to set the bikes up and get the feel for the wind in the air vents of the crash helmets!! All went well so its onto Sunday..........

Sunday 11th

Race 1.Round one

Well the time is here the first race of the season for the Superstocks and the Earlystocks, tyre warmers off, engines started and to the grid for the line up! Look to the lights..... rev the engines...... get ready..... and go! Off to a brilliant start, with Malcolm taking the lead for the first couple of laps, Leaving the rest of the Superstocks behind! by lap 3 the rest of the pack had started closing in, Mark Ess taking the lead and gone! Bob Price not far behind now with 2 bikes between himself and Mark. Neil and Steve battling like mad dogs, with Jeremy chasing and Rob Eley up his exhaust. Pete Young and newcomer Kieron Hayes also racing there sprockets off! Last lap and Mark Ess has taken the lead by a fair way Bob Price also racing hard, Neil and Steve were inches apart on the line, Jeremy and Rob Eley coming in at close quarters. Malcolm and Gary Skellett also finishing closely on the line with Pete and Kieron coming over the line with a bike between them.

.

"Now where was I supposed to brake?"

Race 2.Round two

Well after the excitement of the first race and a quick lunch break its time to get back out onto the track.......! So again its look to the lights..... Get your heads and bikes into gear..... Go! Another good start by all (apart from Steve, who still hasn't got the hang of starting on the lights!) Mark Ess this time getting the lead right from the start with Neil and Bob not far behind, this one could be a close race! Steve, Gary, Malcolm, Jeremy and Rob  all fighting for 4th place, bit close, time to shut my eyes I think!!! Pete and Kieron again Battling it out with the Earlystocks. By lap 4 Mark had taken an excessive lead with Neil and Bob still fighting for the almighty second place (It's all points!) Steve, Gary, Malcolm, Jeremy and Rob were all still close together with only seconds between them and Pete and Kieron still at it with the Earlystocks. The race ended with Mark 1st, Neil 2nd, Bob 3rd, Steve 4th, Gary 5th, Malcolm 6th, Jeremy 7th, Rob 8th, Pete 9th and Kieron 10th.

Pete , Neil , Steve and Keiron taking bets on who will be the first to the bar!

After a good days racing we retired to the bar in the evening.....it was a duty thing.........we were joined by a few of the Earlystock boys and had a jolly night of 'what if's and onlys and Pete Gisbourne wishing he was racing...........could only down a few pints and believe he was 'out there'!

Monday 8th

Another nice morning saw Steve, Malcolm, Paul and Gary's mum and dad, down on the track at 7.30 am taking magazine shots of the FZ's on top of the mountain. Steve and Malcolm then went for a jog and swim before the day's racing get's underway!!!

Bob, Gary and Steve sampling the new Chicane after Mansfield

RACE ONE. Round three

Gary got a brilliant start and led the race until the penultimate lap when after a race long battle with Mark, Steve and Neil, Bob caught and passed Gary at the bottom of the mountain. Rob spent the race beating off the pursuit of Jes and Malc, once again Pete and Kieron were stoic in their defence of the Earlystock lads.

"I know I just should not have had that last beer last night!"

RACE TWO. Round four

Time was passing and the weather was looking to rain, New Era were hurrying everything along before it did! We got out before the heavens opened.

Neil and Steve got the drop on the rest of the field into Coppice and around Charlie's, the lads were being bulked by some of the slower twins. Before long Mark had caught and passed both Neil and Steve, Steve pulled off on lap three with a suspect gearbox, the three Amigos Jes, Gary and Malc were again locked in a fierce tussle with Jes coming off best. Rob had overshot at Park straight and went grass tracking before re-joining at the back. Rob rode like a man possessed  and got himself back into the points. Only one rider came between Pete and Kieron at the end of the race.

Every one finished and got home in one piece. A bloody good meet lets hope the rest of the season goes as well.

Gary, Steve and Jes going for it!
